HumanDoc humanizes AI-generated text inside Word documents. It rewrites robotic or formulaic wording into more natural prose for research papers, class homework essays, proposals, reports and other long-form writing.

Upload a draft made with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or another AI writing tool. You receive a tracked-changes Word document and a meaning-check report.

Paragraphs containing live citation fields (including Zotero, EndNote, and Mendeley field codes), hyperlinks, comments, equations, drawings, or content controls are preserved unchanged byte-for-byte to protect your bibliographic database links.

If you have paragraphs with citation fields that you wish to humanize, we recommend converting citation fields to static text in a working copy of your manuscript before uploading.

The rewrite is placed back into the original Word document, retaining its styles and structure. Technical terms, measurements, quotations and citation text are protected where identified.

Paragraphs containing live fields, including EndNote or Zotero citation fields, as well as hyperlinks, comments, equations, drawings or content controls stay unchanged. If you want those paragraphs rewritten, convert citation fields to plain text in a copy first.

Text length can change pagination. Check the final Word document before sharing it.

Yes. HumanDoc is designed for AI-assisted research papers, manuscripts, class homework essays and proposals, including documents that already contain formatting and references. Review the changes, confirm the facts and follow the writing and disclosure requirements for your work.

Generic web paraphrasers force you to paste text snippets into small browser text boxes, stripping out headings, tables, footnotes, formulas, and Zotero/EndNote citations. You are then left with an unformatted wall of text and no record of what was changed.

HumanDoc operates directly on complete .docx files. It freezes non-prose elements and citations, preserves document styles, and delivers an auditable Word file with native tracked changes and margin comments explaining every flagged change.

Yes. Because HumanDoc outputs native Word tracked changes (<w:ins> and <w:del>) rather than a black-box rewrite, you have a complete, auditable record of every single editorial change. You can inspect, accept, or reject each edit in Word, providing tangible evidence of human editorial oversight to advisors, publishers, or academic integrity panels.

HumanDoc reports a 95% detector-pass success rate. This is HumanDoc’s reported rate, not an independently verified benchmark. Results vary by document and detector, and no individual document or score is guaranteed.

The Examples page shows the sample’s actual measured detector scores: 100% AI before humanizing and 0% AI after. HumanDoc does not automatically run an AI detector during document processing. HumanDoc is not affiliated with or endorsed by GPTZero.

By default, Microsoft Word colors tracked revisions “By author,” which gives all changes from a single author the same color (usually red). The OpenXML document format does not force your personal Word display settings.

To view insertions in blue and deletions in red (matching our website preview): in Word, open the Review tab, click the small dialog launcher arrow in the bottom corner of the Tracking group, select Advanced Options…, and change Insertions to Blue and Deletions to Red.

Yes. A separate review compares the rewrite with the source and flags significant meaning changes with yellow highlights. Omissions are listed in the Issues tab and report.

The review cannot guarantee that it finds every problem. Tracked changes let you inspect, accept or reject edits in Word. You remain responsible for reviewing the result.

We count source words in the prose we actually process. Preserved headings, references, captions, tables, front matter and other excluded paragraphs don’t count. Your quote shows the eligible words before you start; failed jobs aren’t charged.

The monthly free allowance resets on the 1st of each month at 00:00 UTC.

Without an account, each device gets 100 free words a month, tracked per device. When you sign in, your account gets 1,000 free words a month, usable on any device; the signed-in allowance replaces the device allowance while you are signed in (the two do not stack). Both pools reset on the 1st of each month at 00:00 UTC. No credit card is required. If the whole document fits your remaining free allowance, we use it first, even when you have a paid balance. Network limits also apply.

Every registered user receives a unique referral link in their account. When you share this link and a colleague, classmate, or fellow author signs in on their own device, both of you immediately receive 1,000 words credited to your balances.

You can refer up to 100 friends, earning up to 100,000 free words in total. To protect against self-referral abuse, the bonus can only be activated once per user, the activating device must not match any device associated with the referrer, and each device can claim a referral welcome bonus only once.

One Word document (.docx) up to 25 MB. Research manuscripts, theses, essays, reports, proposals and book chapters are welcome. PDFs, older .doc files and macro-enabled documents aren’t supported.

Uploaded documents and results are available for 24 hours after completion, or 24 hours after upload if you never start. They are then removed by the next automatic hourly cleanup. Download your files while they’re available. Job counts, charges and timestamps are retained for 90 days for support and accounting.

Your document is processed on our servers and by contracted third-party AI processors to produce your result. Documents are not used for training. See our Privacy Policy for the details.

Allow minutes rather than seconds. Time depends on your document’s length, the review steps and the queue. Your job page shows its stage, elapsed time and queue position when available. You can return to that link on the same device, or while signed in to the same account.
